LAMP is a smart-lighting environment in Arcosanti, Arizona. Arcosanti is a unique architectural destination which draws 40,000+ visitors a year. People from across the Southwest come here for music/performance, retreats, and studying the architecture.
LAMP lets us wirelessly control all aspects of the Arcosanti ampitheatre and visitor path lighting. We can make the lights interactive, based on movement, sound and other triggers. We can control the lights via automatic timings  and verbal commands (i.e. “turn off at 10pm”), and wirelessly via hand gestures from a MR headset. We can control the lights invisibly from environmental factors and elaborately via a command center. This system lets us as lighting designers use this instrument in profound new ways, from electric consumption to safety, from automation to aesthetic. Recently, LAMP has added spatial audio (3D sound) to the physical environment, creating light-sound syncopation and producing synesthetic experiences that are at the leading-edge in this medium.  VR is also now being used to control LAMP, creating new cross reality immersive control capabilities for hundreds of audience members at a time.
